Open dies can be used with a power hammer, treadle hammer or in some cases a hand hammer to forge specific images into ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Open dies are one sided, meaning they only produce the image on one side.

When made with 1 inch round stock cut to 1 inch length the frog will look like this picture. The amount of flashing (excess metal squished out the sides after making the image) you get is proportional to the size stock you start with. You can use a port-a-band saw and files to remove unwanted flashing and define the image. The open die handle tool is the product you would be buying, not the finished frog.
